    Full Biography

    Dr. Sergey Sukhankin serves as a Senior Fellow at The Jamestown Foundation and holds the position of Advisor at Gulf State Analytics in Washington, D.C. He completed his Ph.D. in Contemporary Political and Social History at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. His research focuses on diverse areas, including Kaliningrad and the Baltic Sea region, Russian information and cyber security, A2/AD and its interpretation in Russia, the Arctic region, and the development of Russian private military companies since the beginning of the Syrian Civil War. Dr. Sukhankin has provided consultations or briefings to organizations such as CSIS (Canada), DIA (USA), and the European Parliament. Notably, his project, "War by Other Means," which explores the activities of Russian PMCs, contributed to the United Nations General Assembly report titled "Use of Mercenaries as a Means of Violating Human Rights and Impeding the Exercise of the Right of Peoples to Self-Determination." He is currently based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
