Full Biography
Dr. Susan C. Pearce research concerns the relationships between culture and politics, with a focus on marginalized groups. She earned her PhD in Sociology from the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research in New York; her dissertation consisted of a participant observation of the movement to protect the colonial-era New York African Burial Ground.
Susan has been on the faculties of sociology at Gettysburg College, University of Gdańsk, Poland, Central European University, and West Virginia University. For the past seven years, she has taught a summer school course on social movements in Istanbul, Turkey for the Open Society Foundations Scholarship Program.
Susan has conducted research on the collective memory of the Solidarity Movement in Poland, of the 1989 revolutions in Central and Eastern Europe, and on immigration and gender in the United States.
