Wilson Center Project

"The Evolution of Israeli Nuclear Strategy: from the Cold War and On"

Project Summary

As Israel has been carring an ambiguous or opaque nuclear policy for many years, the international community could hardly have clear knowledge about its nuclear force or nuclear policy. In fact, Israel already passed the nuclear threshold in the 1960s, and has become a real nuclear power in the Middle East region for a long time. The approach of Israel’s nuclear development, as well as its nuclear policy and strategy, not only have great and direct impacts on regional geopolitics and security balance, but also stand for a different nuclear strategy in the world. Therefore, the study of Israeli nuclear issues could help us reconsider the traditional nuclear strategies and the Middle East security in new perspectives.
