Dr. Hanaa Malallah Develops Ruins Technique in Response to Conflict in Iraq

Dr. Hanaa Malallah is an Iraqi artist and researcher of ancient Mesopotamia, now based in London. Her education and early career in Iraq amid international conflict had a profound impact on her work, leading Dr. Malallah to develop ‘ruins technique’. She discussed the impact of nearly three decades of isolation from the international community on the art scene in Iraq, and need for investment in art institutions and education.
