Érika Ruiz Sandoval holds a Masters of Public Affairs from Princeton University; a specialty in European Integration Studies from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM); and Master in International Relations and European Integration from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). She also holds a Diploma of Advanced Studies in International Public Law and International Relations from the UAB. She was Mexico's sous-sherpa for the Group of Twenty (G-20). She is a visiting professor-researcher at the International Studies Division of the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) and a member of the Mexican Council on International Affairs (Comexi).
