Expert Bio
Michael Bryne is the Geographic Information Officer (GIO) for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). He has been instrumental in ushering in the open government functions at the FCC for geospatial activities, in particular with the websites http://www.fcc.gov/developer and http://www.fcc.gov/maps. Having led numerous data and analysis activities in supporting FCC policy reform, he has significantly contributed to that Data Innovation Initiative at FCC.
Mr. Byrne is the former GIO for the State of California and an expert in the design, development, implementation, and use of geographic information systems (GIS) for research and policy. He has served as chair of the California GIS Council, a member of the National Geospatial Advisory Committee, and a member of the board of directors for both GreenInfo Networks and the National States GIS Council. Mr. Byrne holds a master's degree in geography from the University of California at Davis and is a certified GIS professional.
